WHAT’S ON

June 13th

7PM | WORD OF MOUTH
With John Hope
Open mic spoken word poetry, comedy and live music.

7.30PM | PERVERSE VERSE

Psychotherapist and comedian Liz Bentley presents an eclectic night of spoken word with featured guests including Karen McLeod, reading from her new memoir ‘Lifting Off’ (about her twelve years spent as British Airways cabin crew) and then returning later as her alter ego Barbara Brownskirt, South London’s beloved (and somewhat delusional) lesbian poet.

Sunday June 16

4PM | JEN IVES : DOLL

Comedian Jen Ives, as seen on Channel 4 and Comedy Central, presents her brand new show Doll – which she describes as ‘all about being a cheeky, little unreliable bitch’. Jen has recently been writing for James Acaster’s new podcast Springleaf. He describes her as ‘a wonderful comedian’.

5.30PM | JAMES BARR : SORRY I HURT YOUR SON

Comedian and podcaster James Barr presents outrageous punchlines and unapologetic storytelling in a preview of his new show Flamingo. He explores a brutal breakup, the chaos that followed and the face-off with Piers Morgan that broke his DMs. ‘A masterclass in queer storytelling’ Metro. ‘A wokeycomedian’ Piers Morgan.

June 19th & June 23rd
FERDIE SIMON : GOTHS OWN COUNTRY
FILM SCREENING

Every year the North Yorkshire town of Whitby floods with goths. Tens of thousands from the subculture descend on the seaside community to listen to music, convene in pubs and – so rare for many of them – be a goth among goths. Given unique access to tell a story deeper than the usual puff pieces, shock docs or sensationalist photo journalism, Goths’ Own Country presents a snapshot of a vital date in the goth calendar, delving into what Whitby means to the scene.
